Rules and regulations have no place in flower arrangement and what will appeal to one person may not please another, but there are a few helpful guidelines.
1.Over arrangement flowers are not restful to the eyes, let simplicity and a natural look be your guide.
2. Always use flowers in their various stages of development – buds, half-open flowers and open flowers.
3.Flowers will need to be of different lengths – no two flowers of the same length should be next to each other. Have an “in and out” effect rather than a flat level appearance.
4.Set the vase or container in the correct position before starting.
5.Try to arrange the flowers at the height at which they are to stand, by lowering or raising the vase or container you will get a different view of the flowers, so do the arrangement in the permanent position if you can.

Apple Cider Vinegar & Sugar — Flowers need sugar as food. Sugar is a substantial ingredient in flower food packets. The problem is, sugar accelerates bacterial growth. And you get those gunky, slimy leaves around day 4 to prove it. The solution is to add an acid. Enter vinegar, the bacteria-fighting agent to combat any damage the sugar creates.
Keep It In The Fridge — It seems such a simple solution, but it keeps the flowers fresh well through day 7. It makes sense that florists keep their flowers inside a large refrigerator.
Cut flowers during the cool part of day. — Flowers lose less water in cool weather, and especially during the cool portions of the day/night cycle. Cut fresh flowers in the early morning whenever possible, so they will retain more water and stay fresh longer. The late evening is also an option, although the flowers will not have the benefit of night dew at the time.
Put the flowers in a large, clean container. — Always use a clean container, to reduce the risk of bacteria and other microorganisms infecting your flowers. Choose a container with a neck wide enough to easily fit the flower stems.
